What happens next? Reading group in English

We want to begin our new book club season with something interesting and a little bit challenging, not linguistically challenging (the writing is quite clear) but challenging in terms of concept, plot and purpose. We’ve chosen a short novella so that we can read the whole story. The book is The Driver’s Seat by Muriel Spark.

The Driver’s Seat is entertaining (often funny), but it’s also quite disturbing and strange, it doesn’t leave you feeling comfortable.

In your opinion, what is the difference between “normal” books and Literature (with a capital L)? In other words, when does a writer of books become an artist? Which leads to the question, what is the purpose of Literature (or any type of art)?
